This site was created for a History to Graphic Design course (ARH 246 AA, Fall semester, 2016), taught by Prof. Peter Barr at Siena Heights University.

The purpose of the site is to document and showcase a series of designs in which the sounds of one of Jenny Holzer's truisms is represented by letter forms and design conventions from a dozen differing ancient and medieval writing systems.

This truism is also represented under the 'Modern' tab, in which it is described through design and writing rather than sounds.

 

The bulk of acquired information, especially regarding topics under the "Modern" tab, was found in Patrick Cramsie's The Story of Graphic Design.

Pictured left is one of Jenny Holzer's "Truisms" posters (1979-1982), titled "[no title]". Within this poster is the truism, "REJECT AQUANTANCES, DISCARD OBJECTS, FORGET  TRUTHS". My partner, Justis Madrigal, and I have chosen this truism to be represented and translated on this site.
